FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’S)

What is the right ‘sleeping climate’?
28 - 29 degrees in the sleeping space between the quilt and the mattress.

Why do I need airflow in my mattress?
A mattress or ‘sleeping climate’ that does not allow airflow retains heat and moisture which can lead to the growth of bacteria and mould (in one night the body can lose up to 700ml of moisture).

BICO mattresses circulate air throughout the mattress with each body movement. The free flowing air dissipates the heat and helps to eliminate moisture buildup resulting in an hygienic sleeping environment.

What is so special about the springs?
The ClimaLuxe and Airpulse spring are manufactured from a TPE (thermo-plastic elastomer) containing a high level of polymeric material. The proportion of polymeric material used in the BICO springs is far higher than normally used for standard plastic (particularly the middle section which is soft and contains the highest level of polymeric material). It is this high quality mix of ingredients in the TPE that makes the BICO springs soft, resistant and long lasting.

Do the springs soften or wear out?
No, the springs do not soften over time.

What is the main difference between the Airpulse spring and the Climaluxe spring?
Both spring elements circulate air very well (in response to even slight body movements) however they are different. The ClimaLuxe spring circulates air generally around the mattress via horizontal channels in the BICO cell.

The Airpulse spring actively ‘pulses’ air towards the body through vertical channels as well as circulating air around the mattress via horizontal channels in the BICO cell. Most people feel that the Airpulse spring elements are slightly firmer than ClimaLuxe.

Will my mattress feel different in warm areas of northern Australia compared to cooler southern areas?
Performance of BICO mattress is not affected by normal temperature variations between hotter and cooler climates. The BICO airflow properties ensure this.

What type of material is used to form the comfort layers in the BICO Cell?
Only the highest quality materials have been selected for the comfort layers in the BICO Cell. The unique BICO springs in conjunctions with high quality, long lasting foams combine to form the ‘BICO Cell’ to offer maximum comfort and ventilation.

Is there any partner disturbance on the Airpulse or Climaluxe mattresses?
As each individual spring element works` independently, partner disturbance is minimised.

How do I wash my mattress covers?
Unzip the cover and unclip the hooks located behind the handles on the side of the mattress. Simply lift the cover from the mattress and machine wash at 60 degrees

Can I buy replacement or spare mattress covers?
Yes, replacement/spare covers can be purchased at the store you purchase your BICO mattress from.

Can I use a mattress protector?
Yes, however for optimum air circulation, regular washing of the cover may eliminate the need for a mattress protector. If you do use a mattress protector, it should be manufactured from a lightweight and breathable fabric.

Can I use an electric blanket?
Yes, however the air circulation properties of the BICO mattress may be reduced. If you need to use an electric blanket, please ensure it is made from a breathable fabric.

Are BICO mattresses hypoallergenic?
By definition, HYPOALLERGENIC means a very low tendency to cause allergies. In BICO mattresses, animal hair allergies are avoided as the highest quality synthetic fibres and fillings are used. The fibres used in the machine washable mattress cover are impregnated with salt crystals to kill bacteria. Coupled with the correct support system and regular machine washing of the cover at 60 degrees, your BICO mattress should stay bacteria and mite free.

What kind of base can BICO mattresses be used on?
BICO mattresses should be used on a base that provides enough support and ventilation to allow your customer to achieve maximum benefit from the mattress. For more information on support systems, please refer to the ‘Support Systems’ section of this manual.

Is mattress zoning important and effective?
Yes. The body is not flat and therefore needs varied support zones through the mattress. The spring elements in BICO mattresses are zoned to support the whole body evenly. This ensures that the body is correctly aligned. Sometimes a period of adjustment is required to become used to this new, healthy sleeping position.
